THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Carafe Restaurant Review:

If you have a fantasy vision of the ultimate romantic and beautiful Art Nouveau brasserie on the Left Bank of Paris that exists only in Hollywood movies and dreams, dream no longer. You can immerse yourself in it at Carafe, which has always been famous for its perfectly elegant re-creation of La Vagende in Paris and for the charming and attentive service of its staff, most of whom are long timers. Though the food has always been very good, in former eras and prior management regimes the décor carried the bulk of the diner-pleasing burden. Thanks to executive chef Maurice Constantin (his daughter Cybele serves as manager), the cuisine is now every bit as romantic for your palate as the restaurant is for your eyes. He has wisely maintained many of the restaurant’s most popular hors d’oeuvres and entrées such as the crispy sweetbreads with spinach, frogs legs Provençale, crab cakes and sautéed Hudson Valley duck foie gras as well as the filet of beef with black pepper-brandy cream sauce and half duck roasted with orange honey-ginger sauce. At the same time, the kitchen offers just enough new and special dishes to keep the menu fresh and appealing. In addition to the seductive atmosphere of the main dining room with its exquisite arched mirrors, colorful French tiles and gleaming woodwork, the Garden Room with its skylight and beautiful flowers offers a unique setting for private gatherings. If you want all this glory to come to you, no problem---Carafe does lots of catering.
