Cavatina Restaurant Review

: Sunset Marquis has earned the status of a legendary hotel because of its luxurious suites and villas, spread in a lush vegetation off Sunset Boulevard, which have housed actors, rock stars, filmmakers, writers and high-end travelers since 1963. Black-and-white photos of these luminaries line the walls of the restaurant's interior, but we strongly recommend sitting out on the patio. Since you are so comfortably seated, take the time to peruse the extensive wine list. Consulting chef/restaurateur Michael Schlow developed the concept for Cavatina, which is helmed by executive chef Jonathan Kim. He's incorporating flavors from his Korean-American background in dishes like pork belly risotto with kimchi, egg, crispy shallots and sweet chile. Regulars will be pleased to find that the grilled octopus with black chickpea purée and Fresno chiles remains among the small plates. Continue with other refreshing seafood starters, such as albacore poke with dragon fruit, tobiko and coconut soy; scallop crudo accompanied by nori oil, pickled apples, sesame powder, hijiki and radish; or hamachi with piquillo purée, serrano chile relish, avocado mousse, masago and purple plum radish. More carnivorous cravings can be satisfied by the Prime dry-aged New York strip. Crème fraîche cheesecake with hazelnut streudel, dulce de leche and espresso coffee ice cream is a comforting way to end the meal. For lunch, try the bruschetta with crushed avocado or the signature cheeseburger. Breakfast and Sunday brunch are also served at Cavatina.
