Housed in the former Essex Street Market building---complete with the original cranks and pulleys, brick walls and soaring ceilings---this industrial-chic eatery has stayed true to its roots, serving up Latin American and Jewish-influenced dishes with a modern flair. Potato pancakes, spicy chipotle pork loin, and a memorable Cuban sandwich are just a few of the menu options. Located smack in the center of hipster central, Essex is often crammed with scenesters sporting this season's haircut. But the long weekend brunch (which comes with a choice of three mimosas, screwdrivers, or Bloody Marys) and the Wednesday Lobster Night ($14 for a complete crustacean) seem to bring everyone out, hip haircut or not.
