: Like protein? Want to pretend that you, too, are a master of the universe? Then Flames Steakhouse, way downtown on Gold Street in the Financial District, is the place for you. Serving up juicy USDA cuts, Flames doesn’t have the history or panache of a place like Peter Luger, but it does have the chops, so to speak. One of the first steakhouses to dry age its beef on the premises, the beef arrives tableside cooked to the rarer end of the spectrum. Between the masculine décor---there’s a red and white paint scheme that makes it seem a bit like a sophisticated bordello---and the extensive and expensive wine list, this is a play for the boys to kick back and relax. Don’t miss the surf ‘n’ turf, another classic that may result in a lobster and steak overdose.
