Fung Tu Restaurant Review

: Sip a creative cocktail (try the Fung Tu Gibson: Zubrowka vodka and dry vermouth) while perusing the menu at this restaurant on the border of Chinatown and the Lower East Side, which boasts a Per Se alum in the kitchen. Any meal should start with an order of delectable duck-stuffed smoked dates before moving on to the butternut squash-loaded steamed buns, a refreshing alternative to the near ubiquitous pork buns one finds at newfangled Chinese places. Wheat noodles with pumpkin seed sauce, squash and smoked trout is quite a creation, like some kind of culinary mash-up between China and Italy. Soybean dumplings swim in a celery-mushroom broth that is surprisingly complex. Be sure to end dinner with the peanut butter and chocolate ganache sesame balls and you’ll leave this narrow spot a very happy diner.
