| Photos of famous New York figures dot the walls and red-checked tablecloths top the tables at this speakeasy-turned-steakhouse that has been in business since 1927. Most people come here for the steaks, grilled over hickory logs. But the roast prime rib of beef and lamb chops are safe bets, too, and you can't go wrong with the double cut veal chops, the calf's liver steak (only on Wednesdays and Saturdays), the juicy salmon steak or the jumbo lump crab cakes. The side dishes, made up of all the standards, are greasy and buttery enough for steakhouse regulars. The cheesecake---which can be easily shared---lives up to expectations. The wine list is small and limited to mostly expensive Californian wines. |
