THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Gold St. Restaurant Review:

THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS CLOSED Harry Poulakakos rules the Financial District---at least in the restaurant biz. Few names are more associated with way-downtown dining than this prolific restaurateur (and his son Peter). Gold St., eclectic and casual, puts another notch in the Poulakakos portfolio. Simply clad and lush with comfortable booths and banquettes, this 24-hour diner at first looks like classic Americana: an all-day breakfast menu is loaded with the usual staples, standard sandwiches at lunch, and meatloaf is served up for dinner. But look closer. Suddenly the Kobe beef sliders and the creamy truffle-dusted mac ‘n’ cheese catch your eye. So does the steak ‘n' cheese with Gruyère. And then you flip the menu over and find a page crammed with sushi: specialty rolls, like the “real California” roll, which uses crab meat, or the poached lobster roll. In the end, diners may have one of the oddest meals in recent memory, but that’s what makes this diner so golden.
