Il Tesoro Restaurant Review

: This upscale Italian restaurant doesn’t seem like a natural fit for First Avenue and E. 82nd Street. Move it over a few blocks toward Central Park and it would be well-suited to the wealthy section of the neighborhood. But its unlikely location makes it all the more charming. The menu doesn’t always rely on the simplicity inherent in Italian cuisine. Instead, chef A.J. Black shows off his prowess in the kitchen with dishes like short rib gnocchi with a leek reduction, or cheese-and-spinach-stuffed duck. The massive Tuscan steak is done just right (and it’s big enough for a small family) and the pasta dishes are ultimately satisfying (the saffron-laced risotto is a winner). The wine list, naturally, skews toward Italy, featuring a lot of good Super Tuscans and Barolos.

perfect seafood dishes

We made reservations for dinner based on our friends recommendation, and from entering the restaurant's beautiful wood setting, comfortable in a very sexy movie set way- it had me at hello. Our server was happy to see us, like friendly and gracious making the commitment to the dinner great from the start. We ordered champagne cocktails of blood orange to start the party that were brought over right away for our appetite opener. It was suggested that the seafood specials from the chef were the way to go- so we each choose to course in that way,the blood orange tuna and salmon carpaccio and the scallops "Antica" first course were perfectly cooked scallops and the carpaccio was gorgeous and whoo! great.
My partner and I then had the dover sole( best ever had), and Sea bass "Toscana" with a sun dried tomato and artichoke sauce ( dreaming to lick the plate on this one). Next time we come soon enough , I will maybe order something different, but once i fall in love with a dish I am very loyal to it. Love this restaurant all around, one of my fav's!
