Greenwich Village said goodbye to its best Greek restaurant when Ithaka lost its lease in mid-2002. Luckily owner Sotiris Karamouzis found a new home for the eatery on the Upper East Side, so you can still taste Ithaka's perfect rendition of skordalia (the lusty garlic and potato purée best scooped with crisp zucchini chips). In fact, Ithaka is quite proficient at most Greek gustatory treats. The taverna excels at the dips and spreads that can sate the diner long before entrée time. But save room for the grilled fresh seafood and lamb dishes which are the heart of the cuisine.
