KGB Bar Restaurant Review: Mother Russia is alive and well in this red-lit, kitschy Soviet-era ambience. Plots are hatched and read aloud. But these literati are more apt to spout poetry or fiction rather than the next great socialist revolution at this East Village pub known as an institution for its early-evening literary events. Think of a well-known living New York writer, and there's a sure shot they've read their stuff here. But for those more interested in boozing than books, this former home to the Ukrainian Socialist Party is better than most bars: dozens of vodka and several beers on tap will help get even the staunchest capitalist in the mood for a polka or two. |
