| L & N is an appropriate place for both beginning and experienced wine lovers, or for anyone who wants to explore the endless flavors of the vine and experiment with food pairings. Most of the wines on the lengthy list are available not only by the glass but also in a two-ounce pour, so you can try that varietal you've been hearing about (Viognier, perhaps?) without committing to a bottle. Mix and match with such dishes as a pâté of smoked vegetables, an artisan cheese selection, cauliflower and potato soup, seared duck breast with sweet potato cakes, steak frites, or a Gruyère-laced vegetable quiche. Desserts don’t get too frisky, so you’ll find the classics, such as crème brûlée, cheesecake, ice creams and Belgian fondue. Non-wine drinkers are also well cared for with a variety of cocktails made with house-infused liquors and a very good craft beer selection. All are served by the wine and food-savvy staff in a cozy, exposed brick warren of dining rooms, many of which have fireplaces. Don't be put off by the road to the restaurant, although it seems a bit dismaying to the newcomer. It's worth the trip. |
