La Mangeoire Restaurant Review

: This cozy eatery in Midtown East has been sustained by a loyal clientele since 1976. Rustic wood accents, bountiful floral arrangements, and colorful paintings and copper cookware on the walls give the three dining rooms the feeling of a French country house. In fair weather, the sidewalk out front is set up like an outdoor café. Presiding over the kitchen is chef Christian Delouvrier, a native of the South of France who over the years has shined in such fine dining establishments as New York’s fondly remembered Lespinasse. Here at La Mangeoire he presents traditional French country cooking. The classic dishes are well represented, including country-style paté and onion soup topped with aged Comté and Gruyère. Delouvrier offers a few family-style dishes, such as roasted farm-raised chicken with country fries; coq au vin; and rabbit leg, tomato, mushroom and tarragon ragout with tagliatelle pasta. In addition to the à la carte menus, there is a two-course lunch prix-fixe ($21) with coffee or tea as well as a three-course dinner prix-fixe menu ($35) and five-course tasting menu ($85). The wine list features mostly French selections at reasonable prices.
