THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Layla Restaurant Review:
Drew Nieporents Layla is a wonderfully surreal quasi-Moroccan fantasy of a restaurant---a complete change from nearby siblings Montrachet, Tribeca Grill and Nobu. Overhead is a mosaic of pottery shards and blue tones set a bright and festive mood. You can make a meal of the small, appetizer-size mezzes that include a fragrant assortment of Middle Eastern dips (hummus, taramosalata and baba ghanouj) along with the perfect vehicle for consuming them: puffy, homemade pitas and flat breads served hot from the oven. Main courses are more vaguely Mediterranean, with options such as cumin-crusted tuna kebob and lamb loin with rosemary potatoes. The small and exotic wine list and sequined belly dancers add their own brand of spice.
