: L.A. restaurateur Mario Oliver has reincarnated himself once again with this stylish Dodd Mitchell-designed restaurant-lounge. Tables dressed in white linen occupy a series of intimate yet visually-connected spaces accented with rich walnut, black Italian marble, curtains of woven stainless steel, a stunning fireplace, dramatic wall of cascading water, and a 35-foot lacquered teak bar. An atrium room, one of the quieter areas, boasts a glass ceiling that provides the illusion of dining al fresco. The menu is a true culinary tour of the globe, incorporating elements from such diverse locales as Morocco, Japan, Mexico, Provence, and China. Some examples? Start with halibut sashimi with lime-infused soy sauce and cucumber salad, Filipino lumpia (spring rolls) or Jamaican crab cakes with mango and papaya chutney. Move on to Szechwan peppercorn-crusted ahi, seafood risotto, miso-glazed salmon with yuzu-kosho vinaigrette, or New York pepper steak with pommes frites. Finish with jackfruit-and-banana spring rolls with coconut sorbet or warm chocolate cake with a molten center. The management is also conscientious about their wine collection and is trying hard to deliver top-notch selections---ask for recommendations from the knowledgeable staff.
