| Of Mario Batali's restaurants, Babbo may get all the highfalutin glory, but Lupa gets all the love. The Greenwich Village hot spot is everything a trattoria should be: laid back, casual yet stylish, and serving heaps of house-cured hams, luscious pastas and soul-warming meat dishes. And like all the best Italian restaurants, preparations are simple, letting the primo ingredients speak for themselves. Try the pork shoulder with treviso and aceto or the Saturday night special of lamb short ribs. Dishes such as the satisfying pasta and oil are simple palate pleasers. The wine list is a regional guide to Italian vinos---no surprise it's so good considering Batali and partner Joe Bastianich are also involved in the shop Italian Wine Merchant. If you find a bottle you love at Lupa, chances are you can get it to-go at IWM. |
