THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Lyon Restaurant Review: This long, narrow and oddly shaped restaurant space in the West Village housed an overlooked Belgian restaurant for years. It was usually empty and sad inside. But all that’s changed now that this lively French restaurant has arrived. With one side a tightly packed bar and the other a tightly packed dining room, Lyon serves up inspired fare that doesn’t always adhere to its Lyonnaise roots. Which is just fine, especially when the duck wings (which seem suspiciously like duck legs) are fall-off-the-bone tender and the crispy cod croquettes are done just right. There’s even a hot dog, sandwiched between two pretzel-like pieces of bread. The seasonal pumpkin ravioli and the St. Jacques diver scallops linger in the memory long enough to warrant a second visit. The wine list mostly sticks to France and is generally priced on the just-out-of-reach level and Kronenbourg beer on tap will cost you $8 for a small glass. |
