Esperanto Restaurant Review:

Esperanto is a language that was designed to become the lingua franca of the twentieth century. It didn’t work. And if that makes you want to weep into a caipirinha, this longtime pan-Latin eatery in the East Village, also called Esperanto, will do just fine. Plantain-encrusted goat cheese, accompanied by savory stewed leaks, is a fine starter, while the fried potato and cod fish cakes are smile-inducing in their goodness. Entrées skip across South America, many of the best being from Brazil: the black bean-laced pork and sausage stew (feijoada) and the earthy coconut milk and fish-loaded stew (moqueca). Beef fans can opt for the house burger with pickled onion and spicy mayo. The usual sugary Latin American cocktails are available as is wine from around South America.
