| It’s easy to walk by bustling Seventh Avenue in Chelsea and breeze past Merchants NY without ever noticing it, which would be too bad since this place has a nice cocktail selection and serves seasonal American fare. Though the menu is unfocused---perhaps a result of the attempted Silk Road-trade theme---there are a few standouts: Prince Edward Island mussels with shallots, garlic, thyme and tomatoes in a white wine sauce or the trout marinated in truffle oil and served with asparagus, leeks, pine nuts and saffron-tomato sofrito. For cocktails, the South Beach with vodka, fresh lime, crushed raspberries and pineapple juice with a Champagne float is alone worth the visit. Not surprisingly, the affordable wine list crisscrosses the globe, landing in Australia, California, France and Italy. |
