Mesa Coyoacan, Brooklyn, NY

Mesa Coyoacan Restaurant Review

: Named for a neighborhood in Mexico City where chef Ivan Garcia grew up, this lively Williamsburg spot, crammed with long communal and two-top tables and an action-packed bar where locals sip margaritas, serves up an array of above-average Mexican fare. Start with guacamole, which manages to be both chunky and creamy, before moving on to an order of tacos (three per order). We suggest the crispy tongue tacos as well as the huitlacoche-topped nopales version. For something more substantial, try the pollo al pipian, roasted chicken covered in a pumpkin seed-accented sauce, and the chiles en nogada, a pork-stuffed pepper wading in a pool of walnut sauce and pomegranate. Desserts are the weak point, so it might be best to end the meal with a tamarind margarita.
