: Not quite a bistro and more casual than haute dining, this French restaurant with Mediterranean accents from chef and proprietor Bernard Ros, formerly of Meli Melo, is establishing a category of its own. On a strip of Second Avenue that is saturated with post-college debauchery, this unassuming place draws its ambience from elegant Art Deco paintings along cream colored walls, soft leather banquettes and wood tables. The menu of both casual and sophisticated fare includes fixtures like a delicately grilled Atlantic salmon in a potato "cage" with mixed vegetables, along with specialties from trout almandine to tender pork loin. Appetizers reflect classic French ingredients and preparation with escargots and duck pâté featured alongside delicate and sinewy crab cakes and tender baby octopus. Desserts, such as the tarte Tatin, are artfully prepared while a well-priced wine list touting globe-spanning varietals complements the dishes.
