THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Penang Malaysian Cuisine Restaurant Review:
This friendly family-run restaurant in the Pan-Asian area of Flushing serves authentic Malaysian food, and has spawned offshoots in Manhattan, Boston and Philadelphia. Theres a quick lunch menu of Malaysian stuffed bread filled with mixed vegetables, snow peas, string beans, carrots, baby corn, onions and eggs thats served with curry chicken sauce; or pineapple fried rice and some noodle dishes. Dinner offers some exciting choices such as beef marinated in tamarind and slowly simmered in a coconut-milk broth and fried turnip rolls with spicy sauce. Or taste the sarang burung (its a must), which is formed fried taro filled with scallops, squid, shrimp, corn, carrots, and black mushrooms thats been topped with cashews. Also located in Manhattan at 240 Columbus Ave., 212-769-3988, 1596 Second Ave., 212-585-3838, and 109 Spring St., 212-274-8883.
