THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Pizza Roma Restaurant Review:
This Greenwich Village pizza spot is a tad confusing at first. Walk by and look in and you’ll see what amounts to a pizza-by-the-slice joint. But enter and walk past the counter and you’ll be rewarded with a nice sit-down restaurant with a small back garden. It’s almost a secret, which New York diners love. This Rome-based mini-chain serves up rectangular-shaped, thick-crust pies, a nice contrast to the New York and Neapolitan-style pizzerias in the neighborhood. Appetizers include suppli, fried rice balls, executed well enough that one bite will take you back to your old neighborhood bar in Rome; as well as fried stuffed olives that are refreshingly free of grease. The wine list has a few expensive bottles (Brunello with that pizza, anyone?) and a couple of very affordable Italian options by the glass and bottle.
