The West Side location of this upscale Mexican restaurant was designed by David Rockwell and features a 40-foot water wall as well as a floating staircase. Chunky guacamole is made tableside in lava rock bowls and you can wash it down with a potent classic margarita or the signature pomegranate margarita. For appetizers, start with the queso fundido, melted Chihuahua cheese with crumbled chorizo sausage, cilantro and slow-cooked Mexican peppers, or the zarape de pato, roasted duck layered between soft corn tortillas and topped with yellow pepper-habanero cream sauce. Generously portioned main dishes include above-standard enchiladas suizas (soft corn tortillas filled with pulled roasted chicken, topped with creamy tomatillo sauce and cheese), as well as many fresh fish favorites, like the whole butterflied red snapper, brushed with guajillo-chile-garlic and tomatillo-cilantro sauces. Reservations are suggested, unless you want to wait in the lines of chic Upper West Siders in the mood for muy buena Mexican.
