| This subterranean East Village pub is Irish in name (scratcher is Dublin slang for bed), but those drinkers seeking Emerald Isle familiarity (the shamrocks and faux-ancient relics from the old country) best look elsewhere. Scratcher is sleek and chic on the inside---minimalist exposed brick walls and long wooden tables (which are great for meeting new friends, by the way) make up the distinguishing features of the long, narrow room. The tables fill up fast, so come early or be prepared to stand around, pint of Guinness in hand, till a table opens up. The weekend brunch, of which the classic Irish breakfast is most popular, is a long casual affair. |
