The whimsical David Rockwell design of the Broadway outpost of this New York City mini-chain belies the unadventurous menu. Ho-hum to average pizzas---choose between classics like marinara, margherita, and more unorthodox pies like Nutella---fill the tummy, but fail to tantalize the taste buds. Pasta is a more successful option. The gnocchi “di Mamma” are light and flakey enough to really seem homemade (as it claims on the menu) and the penne arrabbiata---a spicy Roman staple---won’t exactly whisk anyone to the Eternal City but it will satiate you enough until you can get back there yourself. For something different, opt for a piadina, a quesadilla-like “sandwich” crammed with prosciutto, mozzarella and arugula.
