THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Sora Lella Restaurant Review:

Sora Lella, a longtime restaurant on Rome’s Isola Tiberina, an island in the Tiber River between the Ghetto and Trastevere neighborhoods, is legendary. The food isn’t elevated but is classically Roman. The New York outpost, refreshingly, is no different. It’s not surprising that the most authentic Roman cuisine in New York can be found right here (yes, that’s right, eat your heart out Mario Batali). The menu is largely the same as the original in Rome. For the pasta course, please do yourself a favor and order the tonarelli “Cuccagna,” a luscious mixture of pork belly, sausage and walnuts. The flaky house-made gnocchi al’amatriciana and the rigatoni alla gricia (pancetta and pecorino cheese) are also good bets. For something heartier, go for the ultra-tender lamb chops or the white wine-braised veal cheeks. On the lighter side, you can always opt for the malfatti pasta with chickpeas, or the grilled spicy Cornish hen with roasted potatoes. The wine list, predictably enough, sticks to Italy with a few nice, affordable bottles.
