Spot Dessert Bar Restaurant Review:
Set amidst the Asian restaurant clutter that is St. Mark’s Place, Spot is tucked in a subterranean spot that could easily be missed. Pichet Ong, who has logged time as pastry chef at several Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurants and has manned his own sweet and savory restaurant, the now-closed P*ong, rules over this all-dessert bar. The menu boasts some creative Ong classics, including several Ovaltine concoctions, but what really hits the, um, spot is the layered tastes of the chocolate banana pudding and the white miso semifreddo. The mocha Maldon salt caramel cupcake is not to be missed, nor is the coconut macaroon Nutella almond cookie, the surprisingly complex peanut butter cookie, or the condensed milk ice cream. Free WiFi and plenty of good Thai coffee and tea drinks inspire lingering at this handsome wood-clad snack spot.
