This gem of a Japanese restaurant on Caledonia Street, one of Sausalito's two main business arteries, features sparklingly fresh sushi and alluring Japanese-inspired cooked dishes by chef Scott Whitman. The restaurant includes a sushi bar and wine bar with tables across a landscaped courtyard, all comfortable and stylish. As for the menu, feast on broiled oysters, miso-glazed cod and bonito-crusted seared hamachi with grilled asparagus and a miso-mustard sauce. Kobe-style beef, tender as custard, arrives with petite white mushrooms and a piquant yuzu-kosho sauce. Sushi lovers will note the fish available, while those not so hot on cold fish will like the shaking beef or the hoisin-glazed rack of lamb. Desserts go well beyond green tea ice cream. Consider the house-made mascarpone ice cream with bright red strawberries, bananas Foster with ginger gelato and toasted coconut or a trio of mini crème brûlée.
