One of the finest sushi bars along this stretch of Sawtelle Boulevard, often nicknamed Little Tokyo West, Sushi Tenn is a narrow storefront whose minimalist décor---the whitewashed, high-ceilinged space reflects a Zen-like aura---ideally suits the cuisine of chef-owner Tatsumi Hanzawa. With strangers, the chef is all-business, but his seasonal, artfully presented dishes make up for any lack of personal warmth and the generously spaced chairs at the sushi bar encourage a relaxing, deliberately paced experience. The sushi and sashimi exude the essence of pristine waters with uni (sea urchin), blue fin tuna and sweet shrimp most memorable. Perfectly cooked miso-marinated black cod is delicate and subtle, and unlike other renditions around town, not over-glazed with a cloying sauce. Surprises abound, such as sesame-flavored jellyfish and pork kakuni---a glorious hunk of braised pork belly served with Japanese yam and hot mustard in a sweet-and-sour broth that dares you to sip the last drop from the bowl.
