| This tiny storefront in West Chelsea offers some of the best (and most authentic) Spanish tapas in the city. The long room has bar seating and about a dozen tables for two. The space does not lend itself to large groups, and even if you're just a party of two it's best to arrive late on weekdays to avoid some of the after work rush. Tight quarters aside, though, the reason to go to Tía Pol is the food. From straightforward items like patatas bravas to more modern combinations like chorizo con chocolate, virtually every dish delights. Be sure to make some selections from the list of daily specials, which might include sweet peppers filled with Spanish potato salad topped with imported white tuna, palacios chorizo with bittersweet chocolate, or for dessert, Basque-style fried custard with drunken cherries. |
