Vibrato features live modern jazz nightly, high-end dining and stylish décor complete with paintings from co-owner and multiple Grammy Award winner Herb Alpert. The legendary musician has teamed up with veteran restaurateurs Bob and Gregg Smith (Pasadena’s Parkway Grill) for the pleasure of our ears and taste buds. Alpert's sound engineers have transformed the space into a small concert hall with fine acoustics and an unobstructed sight line to the stage from every table. Obviously, this is not your traditional smoky jazz club, nor is the food just an afterthought. The kitchen turns out a contemporary American steakhouse cuisine that would be a credit to any freestanding restaurant. The menu offers a list of intriguing dishes, beginning with goat cheese ravioli with asparagus and kalamata olives in brown butter sauce, potato knish with smoked salmon and lemon-dill crème fraîche, and a Caesar with white anchovies. Entrées involve USDA Prime steaks, braised lamb shank, and pan-roasted Alaskan halibut with pea purée, roasted beets and onion-saffron sauce. The tempting desserts---Bing cherry pie or warm apple-and-raspberry crostada---are for lingering while soaking up the jazzy scene. The striking bar is yet another way to enjoy the venue, where one may sip wine chosen from the long list. The large crowd of regulars proves that Vibrato is worth the drive up Beverly Glen. |
