Located on the second floor of the chic ANdAZ Wall Street on the corner of Wall and Water Streets (hence the name), this restaurant’s David Rockwell-designed front room is a feast for the eyes. The kitchen is located on one end of the dining room, an island for diners to watch their meals being prepared. The menu here is a bit of a throwback---or “safe” might be a more appropriate description. There’s no worldly flair, just straight-up New American fare, which isn’t a bad thing. Especially when there’s soul-warming Manhattan clam chowder or fresh white wine-steamed mussels. The most popular starter is a cheese fondue-like dish that comes in a cast-iron skillet for dipping roasted potatoes and crusty bread. Mains include mushroom-laced mac ‘n’ cheese and a massive portion of slow-braised short ribs (nicely paired with whole cranberries). The wine list has some topnotch selections from around the globe, especially by the glass.
