Cozy and serene, with an outdoor space, this Upper West Side eatery focuses on the cuisine of the Middle East in general, and of Turkey, in particular. Choose between the mixed appetizer plate of hummus, tarama (whipped red caviar), haydari (yogurt with cheese, herbs and walnuts), cacik, eggplant salad and stuffed grape leaves. Phyllo cheese rolls with Gruyère, chicken shish kebab, and seafood pasta made with all the delights of the Mediterranean are all well presented. Other starters include grilled octopus served on a bed of arugula salad with chopped tomatoes and red onions, dressed in olive oil and balsamic vinegar; and the homemade poached lamb dumplings with garlic-yogurt, butter sauce and fresh mint. Entrées include a whole branzini, marinated in special spices. The flaky baklava is sweetened with honey and pistachios, and a nice selection of wines includes several interesting Turkish selections.
