A bottle of R. Stuart & Co. 2008 Autograph Pinot Noir, our wine of the week

R. Stuart & Co.
2008 Autograph Pinot Noir

Willamette Valley, OR

R. Stuart is the vision of four friends and partners. It is named for the company's driving force, founding partner and winemaker Rob Stuart. An urban winery, or at least as urban as it gets in the Willamette Valley, Oregon, R. Stuart is located in downtown McMinnville. Although it doesn't own any vineyard property, it is committed to quality fruit, relying on longstanding relationships with local growers. Currently, the winery focuses on Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris but also produces a dry rosé, Riesling, Brut rosé sparkling wine and a couple of dessert wines. The 2008 Autograph Pinot Noir is made from a blend of seven different Willamette Valley Pinot vineyards. On the nose, it offers restrained notes of rose petal, candied orange and cherry with an underlying dried grass and earthy layer. Nicely structured with fine grain tannins, it features subtle cherry, berry and cacao nib flavors. A refreshing orange and tangerine note hits the back of the palate. The wine finishes short but refreshing. Try it with roast loin of pork in blackberry sauce or quail with truffles and creamy polenta. For vegetarians, the wine would work well with a wild mushroom flatbread or roasted mushroom dish.
