Montes Alpha 2009 Carmenere

Top 10 Father's Day Wines 2013

Montes Alpha 2009 Carmenere comprises 90 percent Carmenere and 10 percent Cabernet

Montes Alpha 2009 Carménère
Colchagua Valley, Chile

Help Dad rediscover the almost-forgotten sixth red Bordeaux grape, now grown mainly in Chile, which claims Carménère as its flagship varietal. Although Carménère by itself tends to be lighter-bodied and less tannic than Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2009 from Montes Alpha comprises 90 percent Carménère and 10 percent Cabernet. The resulting wine is well-structured, displaying a good balance of red fruit flavors, soft tannins and acidity.
