RESTAURANT NEWS

Openings

Amar Santana, the former executive chef at Charlie Palmer at Bloomingdale's South Coast Plaza, is opening up his own restaurant concept in Laguna Beach. The venue, Broadway by Amar Santana, will feature a sleek metropolitan look designed to capture the feel of Santana's native New York, and will have a menu highlighted by a blend of New American favorites and more adventurous small plates. The restaurant is slated to open in September. Broadway By Amar Santana, 328 Glenneyre St., Laguna Beach, CA 92651, no phone available.

Brea will be welcoming Two 40 South Restaurant and Wine Bar to their downtown dining and shopping area in August. Named after its address, the restaurant will be serving up brick-oven artisan pizzas along with a host of small plates, which will feature cuisine that executive chef Jacko Ourfalian has dubbed "farm-to-table Californian." Additionally, the venue will feature high-end wines and a small selection of rare, expensive bottles, including an 1862 Madeira that was produced when Abraham Lincoln was president. The venue will also sell wine, olive oils and aged balsamic vinegars from its in-house retail area. For further information, visit www.two40south.com. Two 40 South Restaurant and Wine Bar, 240 South Brea Blvd., Brea, CA 92821, 714-912-1053.
