THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Kai Restaurant Review:
This elegant Upper West Side Japanese eatery is a favorite among both locals and tourists, whether they’re seated at the glossy black sushi bar or one of the nicely appointed and comfortable tables. (There’s also a private dining room available.) Japan's famous kaiseki dinners---a parade of virtuoso cooking---evolved from the tea ceremony. Building on this history, Ito En, one of Japan's largest tea companies, opened Kai over its tea shop. Eating here is an exercise in sensuality, from the textures and colors of the interior to the myriad serving dishes on which the food (infused with some French flair) arrives. The prix-fixe dinners range from $85 to $200.
