Much about Mugsy’s Chow Chow defines the word eclectic, like the funky décor with its chipped mosaic floors, multitudes of Day of the Dead candles (which create an almost spooky glow) and the owner’s girlfriend’s slightly bizarre but colorful artwork. The menu sticks to Italian themes, yet remains inventive: Homemade pastas come with creative sauces that use a range of seasonal ingredients. Meat is not served here, although fish is. But it’s the crowd that contributes most to Mugsy’s eclecticism, with everyone from aged punk rockers to young investment bankers stopping by for a meal.
