With four decades in the business, it’s a safe bet that Wolfgang Zwiener would provide a great steakhouse experience. In fact, he was one of the first to successfully mimic in Manhattan the winning outer borough formula of his former employer---Brooklyn’s Peter Luger. Here, Armani suits are as much a part of the décor as the mahogany wood, chandeliers and mosaic-tiled ceilings. The bar room is where patrons loosen their Windsor knots, sip whiskey, and take advantage of more casual offerings like steak sandwiches and burgers. The real bull-and-bear sessions take place in the main dining room where waiters parade big sizzling platters of meat. While the porterhouse is the most popular cut, there is also a rich marbled rib-eye and a tender and somewhat more manageable New York strip. You should also try other side dishes like the lobster cocktail, little neck clams on the half shell, and a tender crab cake. Seafood like grilled yellowfin tuna or wild salmon are impeccably fresh, but sides such as overly watery creamed spinach might leave you pining for the restaurant’s Brooklyn forebears.
