Openings
Stars and Strikes, a family entertainment center with multiple locations in the northern metropolitan Atlanta area, has opened its largest and newest facility in Sandy Springs. This unit includes 710 Grille, which will offer American Southern classics and, as the company says, “revolutionize the perception of ‘bowling alley’ food.” 710 Grille, says Adam Clark, its general manager, will field a menu of tapas, gourmet burgers, wood-fired pizzas and sumptuous salads. In addition, 710 Grille will offer an extensive bar program specializing in handcrafted specialty cocktails, local craft beers and select wines. Lunch & Dinner daily. 710 Grille, Stars and Strikes, 8767 Roswell Rd., Sandy Springs, GA 30350, 678-965-5707.
Maureen Kalmanson learned the restaurant management craft with the Peasant Corporation, and had kept the name alive at Peasant Bistro in downtown Atlanta. The restaurant has now closed, but Kalmanson, who opened the popular Campagnolo (meaning "peasant" in Italian) in Midtown, has launched Henry's Midtown Tavern, replacing Mint3. The venture offers a chef-driven menu of appetizers, pastas, sandwiches, entrée salads and desserts, and is open into the wee hours. Henry's Midtown Tavern, 132 10th St. NE, Atlanta, GA 30309, 404-537-4477.
Longtime Atlanta favorite, Gilbert's Cafe & Bar, closed on Monday, December 2, after 14 successful years in Midtown and will re-open as G's, an American gastropub. Owners Sean and Gilbert Yeremyan, brothers, are renovating the space, updating the décor and introducing a new menu by executive chef Javier Viera. Gilbert's was popular for its Mediterranean cuisine, largely from Greek culinary traditions, and small plates. In 2012 the brothers opened 10th & Piedmont in a former adjacent bookstore, with the two concepts connected by a passageway through the kitchen area. One could start with appetizers in one spot and finish with dinner in the other. Viera oversees both kitchens. 10th & Piedmont carries the load serving lunch as well as dinner, brunch and a late night menu, while G's serves dinner, a late night menu and brunch. The new establishment will produce such dishes as skillet mac 'n' cheese, a pimento cheese burger and fish tacos with blackened mahi-mahi. Dinner nightly, Late Night menu Tues.-Sat., Brunch Sat.-Sun. G's, 219 Tenth St. NE, Atlanta, GA 30309, 404-872-8012.
