RESTAURANT NEWS

Openings

Recently departing his long-held post as executive chef at ECCO, Micah Willix has opened his new restaurant, Latitude, in Phipps Plaza. Willix offers a concise, flavor-driven menu and a wine selection of over 60 old-world and new-world labels as well as redesigned classic cocktails. Look for such dishes as spot prawn ceviche with toasted coriander, lime and Spanish chorizo; spicy pork sausage, roasted cherries and chicory; and pan-roasted blade steak with smoked potato and horseradish. Atlanta designer Brian Watford has configured Latitude's welcoming space with globe-like chandeliers and tile wall treatments inset with transparent photography. Warm tones of olive green and ecru accompany natural elements of hardwood wine racking, dark wood tables and cream-colored leather seating. The cement bar top and floor surrounded by clear glass lighting and exposed bulbs are another design element. The 30-seat patio lies between a large water feature and urban garden design. Lunch & Dinner daily. Latitude, Phipps Plaza, 3500 Peachtree Rd. NE, Atlanta, GA 30326, phone not available.

News Bytes

Fleming’s Intros Small Plates
Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar has revised its menu both in terms of content and graphic design. Introducing seven small plates, priced from $15.50-$22.95, the restaurant sought to offer selections that would be alternatives to a large entrée. The new small plates include sliced filet mignon on shiitake risotto; jumbo shrimp scampi skewers with chimichurri dipping sauce; and New Bedford scallops with Meyer lemon-honey glaze. They can be modified to be gluten free upon request, as is the case with the majority of Fleming's menu. Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, 4501 Olde Perimeter Way, Atlanta, GA 30346, 770-698-8112.

Closings

CLOSED FOR GOOD
Take your taste buds on a walk down memory lane! Check out our exclusive closed restaurant database for Atlanta to virtually visit your favorite dining spots from the past. Bazzaar, R.I.P.

A sign on the front door explains why Rolling Bones is dark and the chairs and tables piled high in a corner. A fire has temporarily closed the restaurant, it says, but it promises to be back open as soon as possible. We hope it won't be long before this barbecue restaurant will once again be turning out its sliders, beans, stew and brisket. Rolling Bones, 377 Edgewood Ave. SE, Atlanta, GA 30312, 404-222-2324.
