Openings

When the owners of Lucky Rooster decided to close the place down in favor of opening a third location of their popular Mexican concept, Juan's Flying Burrito, it seemed like the end of the road for the Asian eatery. But now the owners are reportedly planning to reopen Lucky Rooster as a food truck. Food trucks are becoming increasingly popular in the New Orleans metro area, so much so that a central city vacant lot will open next year as a site for multiple food trucks to park and serve area customers on a rotating basis. Will the owners bring back Lucky Rooster's Korean fried chicken? One can only hope.

Legal Battle Erupts Over Galatoire's Ownership
Way back in 2009, when John Georges purchased the venerable Galatoire's on Bourbon Street, there were others vying for ownership. One of them was Terry White, now co-owner of the soon-to-be-re-opened Brennan's Restaurant on Royal Street. Now, five years later, White is challenging Georges in court, claiming that Georges illegally purchased Galatoire's out from under him. Claiming a series of financial and legal maneuvers that resulted in Georges' purchase of Galatoire's, White now says the deal was not legitimate. White's suit, filed in New Orleans Civil District Court, seeks to undo the sale, or provide White unspecified damages. When Georges purchased Galatoire's, he was running for Mayor of New Orleans. He now owns the New Orleans Advocate newspaper. Galatoire's, 209 Bourbon St., New Orleans, LA 70130, 504-525-2021.

Booty's Street Food to Debut New Restaurant Concept in CBD
Having already livened up the Bywater neighborhood, Booty's Street Food owners announced plans to debut a second concept in the Central Business District. The under-construction Paramount Apartments will feature retail and restaurant space on its ground level, and Booty's owners owners will open Ursa Major, a small plates and international craft cocktail restaurant. The restaurant will be open to the public, and offer poolside dining for residents and their guests.  No opening date has been announced, but it will happen in 2015. Booty's Street Food, 800 Louisa St., New Orleans, LA 70117, 504-266-2887.

Sylvain Owner Announces Plans for a Second Restaurant
Sean McCusker, the creative force behind Sylvain, the popular French Quarter gastropub, announced plans to open Manor on Magazine. The new restaurant will be located in what was once a grand old New Orleans house, most recently home to an upscale spa. Manor on Magazine is slated for a 2015 opening (date not yet announced). With the recently revealed impending departure of Sylvain chef Alex Harrell, McCusker promoted sous chef Martha Wiggins, who will likely oversee both the Sylvain and Manor on Magazine kitchens. Harrell had planned a Southern-style menu, since that is his forte, but no information has been released yet about what type of menu Wiggins will develop for the new 65-seat restaurant. Sylvain, 625 Chartres St., New Orleans, LA 70130, 504-265-8123.

Chef Shuffle

The coming year --- 2015 --- is already shaping up to be a banner year for new restaurant openings in New Orleans, and now Sylvain chef Alex Harrell has announced his own new venture. Harrell will leave Sylvain before the end of this year to open Angeline in the space formerly occupied by Stella! restaurant. There is no word yet on a projected opening date, but what is known is that Harrell will stay with what he does best --- traditional Southern cooking. Other prospects showed interest in the Stella! space, largely because chef Scott Boswell had created what is held to be one of the finest and most cutting-edge kitchen spaces in the city. Angeline will reportedly offer entrées in the $20 range, and small plates at the bar. Sylvain, 625 Chartres St., New Orleans, LA 70130, 504-265-8123.
