Wade Hageman, master wood-fire pizza maker of Blue Ribbon Artisan Pizza fame and the former respected chef of Blanca, is opening his second restaurant in Encinitas, which will be called Craftsman New American Tavern. Set in the old Savory location off El Camino Real, Hageman and his wife Kristi plan to serve up classic cocktails, craft beer and comfort food. True Food Kitchen, the brainchild of Dr. Andrew Weil and Fox Restaurant Concepts, the boutique restaurant group that’s reigning over Scottsdale and also currently with outlets in California, Colorado, Kansas and Texas, has landed in Fashion Valley Mall. Executive chef Nathan Coulon, formerly of Quarter Kitchen in San Diego, serves as executive chef of the fifth version of the franchise that offers globally-inspired food prepared simply and healthfully. Katsuya by Starck San Diego has launched a Social Hour New Social Hour at Katsuya
The newly opened Katsuya by Starck San Diego has launched a Social Hour from 4 p.m.-7pm daily, where guests can enjoy $7 specialty cocktails, such as their cleverly named "Burning Mandarin" made with Mandarin vodka, hand-crushed serrano chili, fresh lemon, orange juice and a splash of cranberry. Master sushi chef Katsuya Uechi’s Social Hour menu includes crispy rice with spicy tuna, Kobe-style beef sliders, and vegetable tempura rolls, also for $7 a plate. Chef Shuffle

Chef Pascal Vignau, formerly of Savory in Encinitas, is headed north to the newly revamped Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront Resort & Spa to open Chandler’s Restaurant & Lounge this July. He will unveil a contemporary coastal menu that favors local ingredients with dishes like King salmon with roasted Carlsbad heirloom tomatos and lima beans; beef Bourguignon with oven-roasted vegetables; pretzel-fried skinless chicken breast with buttermilk-mashed potatoes; and vegetarian risotto with artichokes. Expect al fresco seating with ocean views, a wine room, speciality cocktails and craft beers. Anthony Sinsay of Harney Sushi has departed the downtown eatery to join Enlightened Hospitality Group as it takes over San Diego with its clothing-themed restaurants. Sinsay now helms Burlap in Carmel Valley as executive chef, elevating Brian Malarkey’s "Asian Cowboy" fare with his extensive background in Asian cuisine.
