Openings
DineAmic Hospitality has its next pot boiling with Bandit in the West Loop. The site? The former Gideon Sweet space, which is close to its other venture Bar Siena, also on Restaurant Row. The concept merges high-brow with low-brow, glam with grit. Expect the space to boast around 80 seats and a patio, plus rustic elements and white lights. The menu is still TBD, but the general theme will be eclectic American comfort food, dishes the owners like to cook at home. The restaurant will open daily at 11 a.m. and eventually add brunch service on weekends. Bandit, 841 W. Randolph St., Chicago, IL 60607, no phone.
Leave it to fashionable Fulton Market to shake up its version of a coffee and teahouse (complete with a skee-ball machine and Strongman). Fairgrounds opened its first café and bar concept on March 27, bringing imaginative offerings such as Vosges Charcoal Coconut Elixir, Power Flower Milk Tea and naan flatbreads and banh mi sandwiches. The café will showcase specialty roasters and a tea program with Rishi. Unlike the other locations, the Fulton Market outpost will serve booze, and yes, some will be infused with tea and coffee. Pull up a stool at the 22-seat bar, or come summer, relax on the patio on a yellow chair next to planters. Breakfast & Lunch daily. Fairgrounds, 1330 W. Fulton Market, Chicago, IL 60607, 312-265-0761.
Bar Siena's sister from “Top Chef” alum Fabio Viviani sweetens its hold on Chicago; BomboBar adds a second location to Old Town. The new outpost will continue to serve the impossibly sweet, perfectly Instagrammable bombolinis (a holeless doughnut pumped with fillings), plus savory items such as meatball mozzarella and crispy chicken sandwiches. Expect seating for 20 inside and 20 more outside, along with a serve-it-yourself station powered by an RFID chip which will allow guests to pour the red, white, rosé and cocktails from the tap. BomboBar, 1529 N. Wells St., Chicago, IL 60610, no phone.
