Once upon a time, Chicagoans used to call the 2700th block of Milwaukee Avenue "Northwest Plank Road." Well, times have changed, of course, and so has Logan Square. Cut to 2019 and the opening of The Old Plank, the new Tex-Mex concept from One of a Kind Hospitality. The sports bar keeps it straightforward with tacos, sandwiches and platters, plus agave- and whiskey-driven cocktails. The bar will be open for dinner and drinks seven days a week plus brunch on weekends. The Old Plank, 2700 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, IL 60647, 773-661-2190.

Fresh off an April opening, The Smith launches weekday lunch and weekend brunch service. This makes the seventh location for the popular New York restaurant known for its American brasserie fare: seafood platters, steak, salads and burgers. Brunch highlights Sicilian baked eggs, fried chicken and waffles, Ranchero scramble and breakfast pot pie. The Smith, 400 N. Clark St., Chicago, IL 60654, 312-312-5100.

Revamped Menu at Kaisho
Yūgen's sister concept Kaisho celebrates warmer weather with a revamped menu of cocktails and à la carte dishes. The izakaya-style experience just appointed Stella Miller (Alinea, Boka, EL Ideas) as head bartender, and with that comes cocktails based on the Japanese ideals of Wabi-Sabi. The foundation: Appreciate the complexity and the simplicity of life. Sip on Shizen, a concoction of chrysanthemum vodka, fresh muddled shiso and yuzu juice, or Kawaii with aged rum, coconut milk, Rihei Ginger shōchū and matcha. The walk-in restaurant also spotlights a Kaisho charcuterie plate and mentaiko carbonara. Kaisho, 652 W. Randolph St., Chicago, IL 60661, 312-265-1008.
