RESTAURANT NEWS Openings The exciting sister project to San Francisco's famed A16, A16 Rockridge, opened Saturday, June 1, 2013, on College Avenue in Oakland. Together with owner Victoria Libin, owner and wine director Shelley Lindgren (the duo also owns SPQR) cultivate the same sense of warm sophistication and authentic Southern Italian cuisine as at the original A16, with Lindgren's notable focus on Italian wines --- the Rockridge list is 1,500-bottles strong. New to this location is a full bar with an Italian-focused drink program and late-night dining. Executive chef Rocky Maselli is an Oregon transplant with family roots in Puglia, and cuisine here features a more coastal bent than that of A16 in the city. Look for crudo, coastal-themed antipasti, Neapolitan pizzas topped with Manila clams, and house-made pastas sauced with local ingredients such as crawfish sugo. Dinner nightly. A16 Rockridge, 5356 College Ave., Oakland, CA 94618, 510-768-8003.   News Bytes Chez Panisse Re-Opens Builders worked tirelessly to renew Chez Panisse and Chez Panisse Café to their former glory after the fire on March 8, 2013. Both restaurants re-opened June 21, 2013, for a private reopening party; doors opened fully to the public on June 24, 2013. Prices in the restaurant's dining room are notably high --- one menu per night for $248, with optional wine pairings for an additional $148 or $248 --- with a recommended time of three hours to dine. The à la carte model in the bar and salon provides an approachable alternative for diners looking to sample Joshua Skenes' cooking. Saison, 178 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, 415-828-7990.   SFMOMA Closed Through 2016 Travelers to San Francisco should take note: SFMOMA, one of the city's biggest downtown art destinations, is temporarily closed for two years, taking with it its haute Blue Bottle Coffee rooftop cafe and larger Caffe Museo eatery. Look for contemporary art events around the region as the museum is under construction, and an expanded SFMOMA reopening in 2016. Visit www.sfmoma.org for more info.   Chef Shuffle Gerald Hirigoyen's tapas and wine bar Bocadillos has a new chef. James LaLonde (Salt House, Maverick, Pizzeria Delfina) will maintain the restaurant's focus on Spanish-inspired tapas, adding new dishes such as Monterey squid with fingerling potato, olives, celery and charmoula; house-cured bacon and bavette albondigas with kale and Idiazabal; and pig's ear with lime and chile. Look for fresh additions to Bocadillos' Spanish-inspired breakfast (beginning at 7 a.m.) and lunch menus; Bocadillos' 5 p.m.-6 p.m. happy hour remains, with $12 wine tasting flights featuring California, Basque, Spanish and French wines.
