Openings

The French Culinary Institute has launched a branch campus in Campbell, Calif., in what was formerly the Professional Culinary Institute, and will begin classes in April 2011. It is the institute's second American satellite campus along with New York. Enrollment has already begun for the California Jacques Pepin Inaugural and the Jacques Torres Inaugural Classic Pastry Arts classes, beginning April 4 and April 19, respectively, and each featuring a master class session, the first with Pepin and pastry class with Torres. Bay Area Restaurant Tsunami Relief Efforts
Some donations and special events around the Bay Area food community to benefit Japan's recovery from the earthquake and tsunami of March 11, 2011: Le Colonial will donate 1.5 percent of all revenue from the restaurant and lounge received the week of March 21-27 to the American Red Cross; Ozumo restaurants in both San Francisco and Oakland will donate 100 percent of the sale of their specialty cocktail "Kibou No Hana" ("flower of hope") to the American Red Cross through the month of March; Nombe will host a four-course, saké pairing "primer" dinner on March 24 at 7 p.m. for $45 per person, with all proceeds benefitting the Japan Disaster Relief Fund (call Nombe at 415-681-7150 for reservations); Prospect will host Paul Canales (formerly with Oliveto), Bruce Hill (Zero Zero, Bix), Sho Kamio (Yoshi's San Francisco), Hiro Sone and Lissa Doumani (Ame, Terra) and Staffan Terje (Perbacco) to join Ravi Kapur in crafting a six-course dinner with pairings for $300 per person, with 100 percent of proceeds helping to restore the affected Japanese land, families and businesses. Chef Shuffle

Michael Chiarello has added a 36-seat private lounge and dining room with full bar to Bottega, and has created a separate kitchen exclusively for pastry and pasta. With this announcement comes news that Robert Hohmann has been appointed executive sous. The New York transplant has worked at Lincoln, Del Posto and Per Se, and also has Bouchon in Beverly Hills on his résumé. He reports to Chiarello's chef de cuisine, Nick Ritchie. The interior of Chez Papa Resto Chef Steven Rojas has taken over the kitchen of Chez Papa Resto. The California-born chef grew up in Buenos Aires, and was 18 when he began his career in Los Angeles at La Cachette under chef Jean-François Meteigner. After graduating from Le Cordon Bleu, Rojas worked at Chicago's TRU, Patina in Los Angeles, and staged at Akelarre and Martin Berasategui. Most recently he was executive chef at Saddle Peak Lodge and chef de cuisine at El Bizcocho. Rojas' contemporary French menu features dishes such as braised beef cheeks with brown butter, beet purée, pickled romanesco and compressed potato fondant. Closings

Enrico's, a once lively and prominent North Beach restaurant for live music and people-watching, closed in January, 2011, due to financial woes.
