RESTAURANT NEWS

Openings

Two of the most unlikely cuisines to ever fuse are about to meet head on at the new mid-city restaurant Mopho. Owner Michael Gulotta describes the fare as "Southeast Asia by way of New Orleans." How that will play out when the new place opens by the end of the year is still something of a mystery, but here is what we know so far: There will be an outdoor spit-grill where lambs and pigs will be slow-roasted, and where guests may dine al fresco. The menu will include such items as crispy lemongrass duck, pho, and blood sausage dumplings. Gulotta's respectable restaurant pedigree includes time as chef de cuisine at the John Besh flagship restaurant, August. Mopho, 514 City Park Ave., New Orleans, LA 70116, no phone.
