Restaurateur Nick Varano's schmoozy, boozy North End garlic den Strega now has a Fan Pier outpost. Strega on the Waterfront offers 180 seats plus patio tables with prime views of the harbor; inside, there's three private dining rooms and a cozy wine nook for private dinners. The space was designed to resemble a 1940s-era trans-Atlantic ocean liner, complete with glitzy chandeliers and several fireplaces. As for the food, it's strictly old-school Italian---no cruise ship fare here. You'll find Strega standards like veal chops, fettucini strega (shrimp n' scallops over fettucine in a cream sauce), and Varano's lusted-after meatballs. Darryl Settles has opened Darryl's Corner Bar & Kitchen in the former Bob the Chef's space. Chef Tim Partridge (Perdix, East Coast Grill) offers a menu of American cuisine, and there's live jazz and R&B music three or four times a week. Legal Sea Foods Fishes for Morning Diners
The Kendall Square branch of Legal Sea Foods now offers breakfast on weekdays from 7-10 a.m., catering to the early-bird biotech clientele. Look for muffins, breakfast sandwiches, and crepes---plus heartier fare like waffles and omelets. Of course, there's also a smattering of seafood on the menu: whitefish hash, grilled shrimp and bacon cheddar grits and cornmeal-crusted trout. Chef Rachel Klein Offers Quickie Bento Boxes at Aura
Thirty-minute meals might sound like a gimmick concocted by Rachael Ray---but it's reality at the Seaport Hotel's AuraEnjoy a quickie lunch courtesy chef Rachel Klein, who promises to have diners in and out in a half-hour, or else the meal's absolutely free. Time-crunched lunchers can feast on a choice of bento boxes: grilled shrimp with lo-mein noodles, spinach salad and lychee fruit; herbed chicken with Israeli couscous, ras el hanout spice, tomato salad and coconut macaroons; or spice-rubbed yellowfin tuna decked out with soba-seaweed salad, steamed edamame and adzuki bean bun. The Chocolate Bar at The Langham, Boston Chocolate Bar & City Brunch Back at Café Fleuri
The Chocolate Bar and City Brunch buffets are back at Café Fleuri at The Langham, Boston. The Chocolate Bar, themed around the "Five Elements of Taste," features items like stuffed soft pretzels, raspberry filled beignets, white chocolate and lemon meringue tarts, and chocolate croissant bread pudding. The Chocolate Bar is available every Saturday through June 25, 2011, and costs $38 for adults, $25 for children (ages 5-12). Meanwhile, the Sunday City Brunch offers the signature house smoked maple cured Atlantic salmon; beef carpaccio with arugula, Parmesan and garlic aioli; and roasted beets with Lakes End goat cheese and Marcona almonds.
