The Beat Hotel, owned by the same people behind The Beehive in the South End, is a hip brasserie catering to local artists. Live jazz and blues entertainment is offered nightly, while an eclectic menu thought up by executive chef Rebecca Newell, the former chef at The Beehive, brings in foodies. Dinner nightly. Society on High, located in the Financial District, aims to transform the nightlife scene there. A business crowd comes for after-work craft cocktails and lingers over dishes like delmonico steak sandwiches and IPA beer-battered fish and chips. Forum finally reopened to the public on August 16, four months after the Boston Marathon bombings shut it down temporarily. The restaurant has been totally renovated and features a new bar, menu and chef (Dan Schroeder). The revamped menu focuses on New England favorites with a twist like a pan-roasted halibut with lobster chorizo risotto, bone marrow encrusted filet with red wine demi glace and house made gnocchi with wild mushrooms. Tony Maws of Craigie on Main fame has opened The Kirkland Tap & Trotter in Somerville (former home of the legendary Kirkland Café). The interior of this neighborhood gastropub has been revamped and the menu now features everything from braised veal ribs with bacon and cabbage to grilled seaweed and fennel-crusted chicken with farm onions. Inside the cozy neighborhood restaurant Cook is a wood-fired stove for flatbreads, a from-scratch cocktail program and a reasonably priced comfort food-focused menu. Specialties include everything from a house-made pretzel, caramel-bacon popcorn and sweet and spicy peanuts to starters like a bag of clams with ramp tartar, Vietnamese glazed pork ribs with pickled carrots and udon noodles with peanuts and ponzu. Second Annual Boston Seafood Gala
Seafood lovers unite at the Second Annual Boston Seafood Gala at the Exchange Convention Center on September 27. The event, which runs from 6 to 10 p.m., features champagne, hors d’oeuvres and food samplings from some of the city’s top chefs including Will Gilson (Puritan & Company), Dante de Magistris (dante), Louis DiBiccari (Tavern Road), Matthew Gaudet (West Bridge), Charles Draghi (Erbaluce) and Jose Duarte (Taranta). Chef Shuffle
